Police Against Rameshwaram Cafe In Bengaluru
In a recent incident, Bengaluru Police have registered a case against the popular Rameshwaram Café after a 19-year-old customer filed a complaint. According to NDTV, the case has been filed against owner Raghavendra Rao, his wife Divya Raghavendra Rao, and senior executive Sumanth Lakshminarayan.
Why? On July 24 at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 1, Nikhil N. Naresh visited the café with his friends around 7:42 AM before their flight to Guwahati. He ordered pongal and filter coffee, and while eating, he claimed that he found a “superworm” inside the dish. He immediately informed the café staff, who offered to replace the food. However, he refused. Other customers present at the outlet took photos and videos of the dish. According to the FIR, Nikhil left the café without creating any disturbance and boarded his flight around 8:45 AM.
More About This Incident
A day after finding the superworm in the dish, Nikhil saw media reports claiming that Rameshwaram Café representative Sumanth BL had accused him of demanding ₹25 lakh and threatening the brand. The complainant denied these claims and said he made no such call or demand. He added that flight records proved he was already onboard at 10:27 AM on July 24, the time mentioned in the counter-complaint. He also clarified that he did not seek compensation, a refund, or any financial benefit.
Later, according to the FIR, the police checked the CCTV footage from 7:30 to 8:00 AM on July 24, along with the complainant’s boarding pass, flight details, and call records. However, no proof against the 19-year-old boy was found; he then filed a counter-complaint of serving contaminated food and a false extortion case.
As per English Mathrubhumi, police have filed the case against the accused under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. These include section 61 for criminal conspiracy, section 123 for causing hurt using poison or a similar substance, and section 217 for deliberately providing false information. Additionally, sections 228 and 229 were invoked for creating fake evidence, while sections 274 and 275 were applied for selling adulterated or harmful food and drink. The Bengaluru Airport Police are now investigating the case.
