The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has now issued nine regulatory notices to Swiggy Instamart over the alleged delivery of unsafe and expired food items to customers. The food safety regulator has now asked the e-commerce platform to submit a detailed explanation. Here’s what we know so far.
Swiggy Instamart Finds Itself In Trouble
According to The Times of India, the action was taken by FSSAI after several consumer complaints alleged the delivery of unsafe and expired food products through Swiggy Instamart. These products ranged from rotten eggs and spoiled parathas to expired whey protein and packaged snacks.
Swiggy Instamart has now been directed to submit a detailed explanation and compliance report. Failure to submit it could invite strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Reportedly, some customers received products that were expired, while the eggs were found rotten and emitting a foul smell. The products flagged by consumers included Healthify 100% Whey Protein, NOICE Homestyle Madras Mixture with Peanuts, Akshayakalpa Organic Eggs, and Kakke da Paratha.

Always Check Expiry Date Before Using Products
FSSAI also questioned the marketing of ‘NOICE’ eggs, saying that the brand was not covered under the product categories approved by Swiggy Instamart’s existing FSSAI licence. According to The Times of India, it directed the food business operator to stop marketing the product and seek a licence modification.
Earlier this month, FSSAI also issued notices to several beverage manufacturers over the unauthorised use of added flavours and misleading age-related claims. Brands like Lotte India, Ferns N Petals, and Kubera Foods also came under the scanner over labelling violations.
These days, many people rely heavily on e-commerce platforms for groceries and daily-use products. This is why this action was quite necessary. So, if you are someone who frequently orders groceries online, make sure you properly check the expiry date. Always do this before consuming them.
