Swiggy Expands Food On Train Services
Understanding that train travellers now prefer warm, fresh meals along with a variety of food options, Swiggy has expanded its ‘Food on Train’ service. The online food delivery platform now serves food across 180 cities in India. The platform recorded a threefold increase in train food orders in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
Swiggy also introduced the “Scan Your Ticket” feature this summer. With this feature, travellers can upload their train ticket, after which the app automatically detects the PNR and enables food ordering. The feature has also encouraged passengers to plan ahead, with many placing their meal orders up to four days before their journey.

Which Route Saw The Highest Multiple Food Orders?
The people who ordered the most food on trains were travelling on long journeys. Many travellers ordered food multiple times during the same trip. In fact, orders placed at two or more stations on the same PNR increased by over 300% compared to last year.
The Bhopal-Nagpur route saw the highest number of such orders, with more than 1,300 passengers ordering food at both stations during a single journey. Swiggy also expanded this service to 17 new railway stations, including Gurugram, Udaipur, Bikaner, Davanagere, Kayamkulam, Nanded, Amravati, Shoranur, Arrah, Tadpatri and Nizamabad.
Among the food ordered on trains through Swiggy, roti remained the top choice. More than four lakh rotis were delivered on trains this summer. Popular options included Tawa Roti, Tandoori Roti, Butter Roti and Phulka. Masala Dosa, Aloo Paratha and McDonald’s McAloo Tikki Burger also ranked among the favourites. Chicken Biryani was the most-ordered non-vegetarian dish.
During summer, Mango Shake was the most popular beverage, with orders increasing nearly ten times compared to winter. Soft drink orders rose by 354%, while Lassi orders doubled. Ice cream orders increased by 140%. As for students, burgers were their most-ordered food item.
Different regions ordered different food. In North India, travellers mostly ordered Roti with curry, Aloo Paratha and burgers. In South India, Dosa was a favourite among passengers, while Biryani was the most popular choice in Andhra Pradesh. People travelling in eastern India preferred Thalis, Fried Rice and rice bowls.
In May, student orders witnessed a 70% jump. The highest number of orders came from stations such as Kharagpur, Kanpur and Aligarh.
