Sushi is not exactly designed for people who are constantly on the move. The moment you open a takeaway box, you also need a surface to place the soy sauce dish. That small logistical problem, “where to keep the dipping sauce ?” is what led An Instagram creator to come up with a strange but clever idea: a soy sauce ring you can literally wear while eating sushi.

In a reel that has been circulating online, the creator @koko.joris shows a small ceramic ring with a miniature dish attached to the top. The bowl is just large enough to hold a small amount of soy sauce. Instead of pouring sauce into the usual compartment in a takeaway tray, the user pours it into the tiny bowl on the ring and dips sushi straight into it. The entire setup essentially turns your hand into a portable dipping station.

The creator demonstrates the ring while eating sushi directly from a takeaway tray. There’s no table involved, no extra dish being balanced on the edge of a box, just chopsticks, sushi, and a tiny sauce bowl sitting on a finger.

The design itself is very simple. The ceramic dish resembles the small soy sauce bowls commonly used in sushi restaurants, just miniaturised and attached to a ring band.

Why The Sushi Soy Sauce Ring Is Going Viral Online

The reel also shows a few playful additions to the idea. Alongside the soy sauce ring, the creator made sushi-themed rings shaped like pieces of nigiri, turning the whole thing into a slightly absurd but amusing “sushi ring set.”

In the caption, the creator explained that the concept was meant as a portable solution for eating sushi outdoors in situations where there isn’t always a convenient place to set down a sauce dish. 

At the same time, the creator clarified in the comments that the project was never intended to be a commercial product. It started as a fun design idea and a humorous reel rather than something meant for sale.

The Internet Reacts, “I Need Those Rings…”

People in the comments had a lot of thoughts. 

A user was instantly sold on the concept, commenting, “I need those rings, please. Everything about this is perfect.”

Not everyone saw the need for it, though. One comment pointed out, “No need for this. There’s enough space for soy sauce in every tray.”

The creator didn’t disagree with that criticism. Responding to the comment, they wrote, “Yes, it’s just an unnecessary invention for entertainment. I’m not selling this.”

Still, the idea clearly struck a chord online. Some people treated it as a clever little hack for eating sushi outdoors, others saw it as a funny design experiment, and a few viewers even tried to interpret a deeper meaning in it. One commenter jokingly suggested the ring could be an ironic reflection of modern life, where everything, even eating, has become something we do “on the go.”

The creator later replied that the reel was simply meant to be funny, though they appreciated the interpretation.

Whether practical or pointless depends on who you ask, but as internet inventions go, a wearable soy sauce bowl is exactly the kind of bizarre idea that makes people stop scrolling for a second, and imagine dipping sushi straight from their finger.
