Karnataka will soon introduce QR codes outside hotels and pharmacies, allowing people to scan and directly report food safety concerns. Read on to know more about it.
How To File A Complaint Using QR Codes In Karnataka?
As per a report by News18, Health Minister UT Khader described the move as the first such initiative in the country.
The announcement comes as the state’s Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) Department steps up its crackdown on hygiene and quality violations at hotels, resorts and other food establishments.
According to Khader, customers will be able to scan the QR code displayed outside hotels and pharmacies and file complaints about any food safety issue on the spot.
He also announced plans to organise an International All India Food Safety Conclave to address differences in the quality and taste of products, including soft drinks, sold across countries. Khader said central food safety regulations need to be strengthened to ensure Indian standards are on par with those followed internationally.

Additionally, Khader warned PG and hostel operators to maintain proper food quality standards, saying there would be no leniency for establishments found serving poor-quality food.
The inspections will also be expanded beyond hotels to private hostels, bus stops, wedding halls, railway canteens and food served on flights. A dedicated watch team will be formed to strengthen food safety checks across these locations.
