Bengaluru 5-Star Hotel Raids Expose Rotten Meat & Expired Milk Found In Kitchens

When we plan to eat at luxury hotels, we often expect clean kitchens, fresh ingredients and high food safety standards. However, a recent inspection in Bengaluru has raised serious concerns about hygiene at several 5-star hotels. Read on to know more! 

Food Inspections At Bengaluru’s 5-Star Hotels

Strict food inspections are being conducted across India, leading to the closure of many restaurants. As per News18, now, the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has conducted inspections across Bengaluru and found multiple violations. Many establishments had stored expired food, rotten meat and fungus-covered vegetables. Shockingly, the list also included some 5-star hotels, such as Taj Yeshwantpur and Shangri-La Bengaluru.

Legal action has been initiated against these luxury hotels. Officials carried out the citywide inspections to check if premium hotels were following food safety and hygiene rules. Karnataka Health Minister UT Khader said the drive aimed to ensure that hotels across the city follow all food safety standards. A team of 30 Food Safety Officers carried out checks at 26 three-star and five-star hotels across Bengaluru Urban. The inspection teams covered all Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) zones. 

For inspection, 35 food samples had been collected for laboratory testing. The samples included chicken, mutton, fish, edible oil, milk, spices, tea powder, cheese, tomato sauce and lemon juice.

Which Luxury Hotels Violated The Rules?

It is shocking to see how much unsafe and expired food was found at Bengaluru’s 5-star hotels. News18 reported that at The Lalit Ashok, teams destroyed 76 kg of meat, 200 kg of vegetables and 32 litres of expired milk. Shangri-La Bengaluru had 15 kg of meat seized, while Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru had 19 kg of meat confiscated.

At Vivanta Bengaluru Whitefield, officials destroyed three kg of expired bakery products. Taj Yeshwantpur also had 72 kg of meat and fish seized. It was Radisson Blu (The Atria) that violated the safety standards on a large scale. Authorities destroyed 105 kg of expired food.
