HH Dr Sheikh Sultan, Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the authorities concerned to provide transportation for female students from Sharjah City. Basically, for those studying at the academy’s Khorfakkan branch. Under the directive, the students will be taken to their families for the weekly break on Thursdays and brought back to the academy on Sundays.
How The Directive Came About
The decision came in response to a student’s father, who called the Direct Line programme, broadcast by Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and hosted by Mohammed Al Raisi. He explained that his daughter was studying marine engineering at the academy and living in the female student dormitory in Khorfakkan.
Every Thursday, he said, he had to travel to Khorfakkan to collect her and take her home to Sharjah, then return her to the dormitory on Sundays. The routine, he added, caused him hardship and disrupted his work.
What Happens Next
Sheikh Sultan responded immediately. He contacted the director of the academy and directed that transportation be provided for female students from Sharjah.
The academy’s administration is now coordinating with the administration of Sharjah University City to work out the details. After determining the number of students and their places of residence, the transportation will be provided properly. Further details on routes and timings have not yet been announced.

Why The Weekly Journey Mattered
Khorfakkan sits on Sharjah’s east coast. It’s a fair distance from Sharjah City, which makes the weekly journey a significant commitment for families whose daughters live in the dormitory during the study week. For many students, that kind of commute can shape whether a programme feels within reach. It’s particularly for those pursuing technical careers such as marine engineering.
The coordination with Sharjah University City is also a sensible step, since it allows planners to match transport to where students actually live rather than guessing. Once the numbers are confirmed, families should get clearer information on how it will work.
For the students concerned, the outcome is simple: an easier trip home on Thursdays and back on Sundays, and one less weekly worry for their families.
