The world celebrated International Yoga Day 2025 on 21 June with vibrant energy and mass participation across major cities. From India’s Visakhapatnam to New York’s Times Square and Tokyo’s stately Zojoji Temple, thousands of people came together to practice yoga. The global celebration marked a collective step towards holistic wellness, with events reflecting each region’s cultural identity while staying true to yoga’s universal essence.

Visakhapatnam Hosts Grand Yoga Day Event 2025

India led the global celebrations with a major event in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. According to NDTV, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined hundreds of yoga enthusiasts at RK Beach. The open-air session saw carefully organised preparations by the Indian Navy Front and local authorities. Participants performed traditional asanas by the sea as part of a large-scale public event.

The government chose Visakhapatnam for its symbolic coastal setting and commitment to public health initiatives. As reported by India Today, this year’s event emphasised connecting with nature and encouraging regular yoga practice among the youth and armed forces.

Tokyo Sees Strong Turnout Led By Japan PM’s Wife

In Tokyo, Japan’s First Lady Yuko Kishida led the celebrations near the iconic Zojoji Temple. As reported by Hindustan Times, more than 1,500 people participated in the event, which was organised by the Indian Embassy in Japan. The backdrop of Tokyo Tower added a sense of serenity to the proceedings.

Participants ranged from diplomats and locals to yoga enthusiasts who gathered to mark the day with coordinated postures and breathing exercises. The event highlighted the growing popularity of yoga in Japan and strengthened India-Japan cultural ties.

Times Square, London, And Southeast Asia Join The Movement

In the United States, Times Square, New York City, transformed into a massive yoga ground once again. As reported by India Today, thousands turned out to perform yoga amid the city’s hustle. With yoga mats laid out in neat rows, the heart of Manhattan embraced peace and focus. Actor Anupam Kher also joined the crowd, underlining the celebration’s universal appeal.

Meanwhile, London held community yoga events in public parks, while countries like Singapore and Myanmar also organised sessions. DD News reported that hundreds participated in yoga events across both countries, highlighting Southeast Asia’s growing interest in wellness practices. According to Khabarhub, Nepal also marked the occasion with community yoga sessions organised by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

International Yoga Day 2025 continues to inspire a shared global spirit of harmony, wellness, and mindfulness.
