The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an advisory and asked eateries to display crucial information like calorific value, allergen information, and other nutritional details on their menu and display boards. This move, according to FSSAI, will help consumers make informed decisions and also ensure transparency. For now, the food regulatory body has asked established eateries with 10 or more outlets to adhere to this advisory.
FSSAI Issues Advisory To Disclose Crucial Information On Menu & Display
As per the display information rule of FSSAI, they have directed eateries to include crucial information about the food item being served on menus, boards, or booklets. This information included calorific value, allergen information, food’s vegetarian or non-vegetarian status, and other nutritional details. Essentially, just like the information you find on the back of any packed food. They have directed this advisory to restaurant chains with 10 or more outlets. This decision comes amid growing cases and concerns about misinterpretation of information displayed by eateries. Adhering to this, FSSAI has asked food safety commissioners in various states to emphasise and implement these food safety guidelines in their areas. E-commerce food business operators are also included in this rule. The authorities have directed them to adhere to this rule and display the required information across all platforms.

Aim To Ensure Transparency & Food Safety For The Consumer

They have directed e-commerce food business operators to get information from their respective Food Business Operators about this information. FSSAI will also ensure strict compliance with this advisory.
