Thane is all set to get a new tunnelled road. This news tunnelled road will significantly decrease the traffic congestion that frequently happens on the Ghodbunder road. It will connect Gaimukh to Bhayander and will also complete the ring road. This will prove to be one of the most crucial roadways in the city. Gaimukh-Bhayander Tunnelled Road: All You Need To Know
According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, this particular tunnelled road project will stretch across 15 kilometres. Of these, 5.5 kilometres will be a tunnelled road and the rest of the 9.8 kilometres will be a flyover.
The flyover is being built to protect the green cover of the land. If the road were to be built at grade, the mangroves would have had to be destroyed. The tunnel will connect Gaimukh in Thane and Bhayander and the flyover will connect Bhayander to the Fountain Hotel Area.
If reports are to go by, it will take a whopping six years to complete the project. As of now, tenders have been floated with the aim of appointing suitable contractors.
Other Important Details To Know About This New Project
The ring road system, which was created owing to the developments in Thane as well as Mumbai, had a gap between Gaimukh and Bhayander. This new project aims to fill this gap in connection and complete the ring road.
The Ghodbunder Road connects the Eastern Express Highway or EEH to the Western Express Highway or the WEH. As such it is a crucial connector and faces heavy traffic. It is hoped that this new tunnelled road will ease the traffic congestion on this crucial connecting road.
