Commercial Flights Permit Videography and Photography In-Flight

The DGCA informed on September 13 that commercial flights will permit passengers to do photography and videography inside the flight. But it also clarified that there’s a prohibition on recording equipment which violates norms, creates chaos and compromises air safety.

The announcement states “It is clarified that a bonafide passenger travelling in an aircraft engaged in scheduled air transport services may do still and video photography from inside such an aircraft while in flight, take off and landing… however, this permission does not include use of recording equipment which imperils or compromises air safety; violates prevalent norms; creates chaos or disruption during operation of flight or expressly prohibited by crew,” the clarification said.

DGCA Bans Recording Equipment Violating Air Safety Protocols In-Flight

This clarification comes a day after DGCA issued an order for commercial flights informing the violations of in-flight norms including photography. It stated that this will invite suspension of that scheduled route for two weeks. This suspension shall stay in place until the airlines take action against people violating these norms. The DGCA statement further added “In case of any violation of Rule 13 of Aircraft Rules 1937 on any passenger aircraft, the schedule of flight for that particular route shall be suspended for two weeks from the next day.” The DGCA cited rule deals with the conditions of videography and photography on board commercial passenger flights.

This Order Comes After Media Persons Created A Ruckus Inside IndiGo Flight To Film Kangana Ranaut In-Flight

The aviation regulator added that in spite of these rules, airlines often fail to follow them mainly due to lack of diligence on their part. The statement read that deviations result in compromise to maintain the highest standard of safety. And that was the reason to ban recording equipment in-flight.
