Gitex Global 2024: Dubai Customs To Soon Allow Warehouse Owners To Lease Their Space, Amid A Surge In Demand

At the Gitex Global 2024, Dubai Customs made a major announcement for the owners of warehouses in the UAE. Yes, Dubai Customs announced that it will be rolling out a new digital platform that will allow owners to list their properties for leasing. Here’s all you need to know about this development that was revealed in a report by Khaleej Times.

Warehouse Leasing To Soon Be Available

Announced during the Gitex Global 2024, the warehouse platform will be launched, which will be the one-stop solution for warehouse owners. On this digital platform, they will be able to lease their properties across the country! Called the Airbnb of Warehouses, this platform is not only going to simplify the process of registering but also leasing various types of warehouses. As this will be done through a centralised system, a variety of facilities will be available to the people. So, whether the owners of warehouses have dry or air condition facilities, they can all list their properties.

This development regarding the leasing of warehouses comes at a time when there is a shortage of warehouses as compared to the demand. According to Knight Frank analyst, a global real estate consultancy, the supply of under-construction warehouses stood at just 1.56 million ft.². While the city of Dubai recorded a new requirement of 9.9 million ft.² during the first nine months of 2023. Not to mention, it has also registered the highest rental growth in Jebel Ali Industrial over the last 12 months.

So, with the introduction of the new platform, there will be an option of leasing customs warehouses that will be dedicated to storing goods under suspended customs duties. This will in turn help in expediting custom clearance procedures and even reduce costs!

This means if you store the goods in bonded warehouses, it will be like a mini free zone and they will be under the control of customs.
