Italy marked the final stop of PM Narendra Modi’s five-nation European tour. During his visit to Rome, the Prime Minister explored some of the city’s iconic landmarks and held discussions with Italian PM Giorgia Meloni on strengthening India-Italy strategic ties. Amid his packed itinerary, PM Modi and Meloni also planted a black mulberry sapling in Rome under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, according to NDTV.

Sharing the moment on social media, India’s Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the significance of the mulberry plant, writing, “Known as Krishna Toot in India, the tree connects India and Italy through its culinary, medicinal and cultural significance.”

They further added, “The plantation is another step in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, promoting environmental consciousness and sustainable living.

Launched on World Environment Day in June 2024, the initiative encourages people across India to plant a tree in honour of their mothers as a tribute to both motherhood and Mother Earth.
