On July 30, 2025, an FDA alert report mentioned that Bunge North America, a food company, announced a voluntary recall of 1,800 cases of its NH European Style Butter Blend butter. This butter was distributed at 12 centres across the United States and one in the Dominican Republic. Each case contained 36 blocks and was packed in white paperboard.

Over 29,000 kg of butter was recalled because the packaging did not mention that the butter contained milk. As per NDTV , on July 30, 2025, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marked the recall under Class II level. The product marked under Class II level urgency means it can cause temporary harm or other health problems. While the risk of a serious issue is low, this necessary step is taken to fix the product so there is no harm to users with allergies.

FDA’s Clear Rules For Allergens

Till now, there are no reports of serious harm caused by this butter labelling issue. But allergen rules are strict as they can affect a person, especially those with serious allergies. It can start with symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, lip swelling, and can even lead to severe and life-threatening conditions. The FDA has clearly mentioned that allergens should be listed on the label. If anyone with a milk allergy eats this butter, they can face both minor and major health issues.

This serious issue in the USA highlights the importance of being cautious before consuming any product. It’s advisable to always check the label and ingredients, especially before serving it to someone with any kind of allergies.
