Republic Day is almost here, and the best part is that this year, January 26 falls on a Monday. This makes it a long weekend! Travellers are already planning getaways with partners, family, and friends. You might be surprised to know that Goa and Dubai are emerging as the top choices for this long weekend escape for many travellers.

Republic Day Holiday Boosts Long Weekend Travel Plans

We are still in the first month of 2026, and Indian travellers are already planning a long weekend break. The reason is simple. The Republic Day holiday falls alongside a weekend this year, and it has many travellers excited. Popular digital travel platform Agoda’s recent data shows that accommodation searches for the dates 23-26 January are considerably higher than last year.

Domestic searches are up by 115% year-on-year, while outbound searches have risen by 63%. So, where are Indian travellers heading? As per the data, Goa is leading domestic search interest. On the international front, Dubai tops the list. The figures clearly show that travellers are planning ahead to make the most of the year’s first long weekend.

Many travellers are also choosing to skip domestic destinations and head abroad. Dubai, Phuket, and Bangkok emerged as the top international picks. Accommodation searches for these destinations recorded year-on-year growth of around 84%, 77%, and 56%, respectively. Phu Quoc Island, Krabi, and Ho Chi Minh City also witnessed increased interest among Indian travellers.
