Travelling To Phu Quoc Island? Indian Travellers, Follow These New Visa Rules & Travel Advisory

The Embassy of India in Vietnam has issued an important advisory for Indian nationals travelling to Phu Quoc Island and for visitors who lose their passports while in the country. If you are planning to travel to this beautiful destination anytime soon, make sure to keep these rules in mind.

Travel Advisory For Indians Visiting Phu Quoc Island In Vietnam

Phu Quoc Island offers visa-free entry for Indian citizens, which is why it is slowly becoming quite popular among travellers. But this visa-free entry comes with limitations. Travellers cannot visit mainland Vietnam, such as Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, without a proper visa. The embassy highlighted on its official X account that, in case of unforeseen circumstances such as medical emergencies or flight disruptions, Indian nationals may need to travel to mainland Vietnam.

In such situations, individuals without a valid Vietnam visa can face serious challenges. These include delays in accessing medical facilities, travel restrictions, and immigration-related issues. This is why Indian nationals are advised to get an appropriate visa before travelling to Phu Quoc. Even if their itinerary is limited to the island.

What To Do If You Lose Your Passport In Vietnam

The Embassy of India in Vietnam also issued an advisory for travellers who lose their passports during their visit. There have been instances of Indian nationals losing passports in the country. According to the advisory, travellers must immediately file a police complaint in the area where the passport was lost. This complaint will be later submitted to the Embassy of India in Hanoi or the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City.

Once authorities receive the request for an Emergency Certificate or travel document, they try to issue it at the earliest, often on the same day. However, even after getting the emergency document, travellers must wait for an Exit Permit. This usually takes three to five working days to be issued. Until then, Indian citizens will need to stay in Vietnam.
