The Massachusetts Port Authority, also known as Massport, is set to introduce a new pilot programme this summer at Logan International Airport. The new programme will allow travellers to complete airport security checks before reaching the airport. Want to know more about it? Read on.
Boston Straight To Gate Airport Service
As per a report by NDTV, the straight-to-gate programme is set to start its operations from June 1. Travellers flying with Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways on select flights between 5:30 am and 4:00 pm will be able to use the new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at the Logan Airport Remote Terminal in Framingham, which is located about 25 miles from Logan International Airport.

To avail themselves of the benefits of the service at the remote terminal, commuters will be required to reserve a seat online for ₹870. Reservations will be available up to 90 days in advance of departure and until 90 minutes before the flight. Additionally, children will be able to travel free with a family member who has an existing ticket. The officials have also stated that, as seating is very limited, passengers should book tickets as early as possible.
What Is The Procedure For The Service?
Upon arrival at the remote offsite terminal, passengers will need to check in, get their boarding passes, and hand over their baggage before proceeding through the same security screening process they would go through at the airport, which includes checks by TSA officers. Post which, the guests will board buses operated by The Landline Company, which will take them directly to their gates at Logan Airport without having to ask them to pass through airport checkpoints again.

As per the portal, Massport stated that the new system focuses on reducing traffic delays and long security lines at Logan Airport. The decision comes after the airport experienced long security wait times earlier this year due to TSA staffing shortages during a partial US government shutdown.
According to Massport, this will be the first such straight-to-gate service in the country, accessible to passengers across all ticket classes on both domestic and international flights operated by Delta and JetBlue.
