Environmental problems like global warming and extreme weather are pushing countries to take steps towards a sustainable future. Amid growing environmental concerns, Thailand is taking a major step to tackle the issue while ensuring the country’s growth remains on track. The country is getting ready to pass its first Climate Change Act. Keep reading for more details.
Thailand Is Getting Ready For the Climate Change Act
As per the Travel and Tour World report, Thailand is all set to pass its first-ever Climate Change Act. Till now, more than 30 government agencies have reviewed the law, and for final approval, it will be passed to the Cabinet. Over the years, many social activists have been requesting laws that can help Thailand achieve its long-term climate goals, and now it’s finally here.
The new Climate Change Act will play a crucial role in Thailand’s climate plan. It will provide a legal framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen protection against climate impacts. After the final approval, the authorities will form a Climate Fund, supporting the country’s adaptation to climate change and moving towards a low-carbon lifestyle.
Climate Threats In Thailand
Thailand has already faced major issues like stronger floods, coastal erosion, and other disasters in recent years. These disasters have harmed people and communities, along with causing financial losses of more than 5 billion baht in the tourism sector. With the new act, the country is already planning to protect jobs, farms, and people’s well-being.
The main highlight of the Climate Change Act is the Climate Fund. It will grant loans and subsidies for green energy, sustainable infrastructure, and adaptation projects. The new act will help in accessing international climate finance and aligns with Thailand’s targets: peak emissions by 2030 and net-zero by 2065, in line with the Paris Agreement.
According to the Travel and Tour World report, this new act will also support eco-friendly tourism, with carbon-neutral and net-zero projects. At ITB Berlin 2025, Thailand presented its plan to make provinces climate-smart for travel. By adding climate resilience to every tourism plan, the country is focusing on keeping travel enjoyable while protecting its environment and economy. The Climate Change Act will provide funding to fields like agriculture, water, tourism, health, natural resources, and housing. These six areas are already facing major issues because of environmental problems.
