Located in northeastern Italy, Venice is a city which is known for its canals. Here, instead of driving cars, people get around by walking or riding in boats called gondolas. And this is the reason why it attracts thousands of tourists from across the world. But entry to the city could get expensive as Venice is planning to increase its tourist fee for day-trippers, and here’s what you need to know.
Venice May Increase Tourist Entry Fee From 2027
If Italy is on your bucket list, then we suggest that, apart from visiting Rome and Milan, you also visit Venice, a city known for its gondola rides, historic architecture, beautiful stone bridges and, of course, art. But according to Travel Daily News International, Venice is now considering raising its day-tripper access fee to €30 (₹3,236 approx.) from 2027.
Venice currently charges day trippers between €5 (₹539 approx.) and €10 (₹1,078 approx.) on designated dates, which is affordable for almost everyone. But reportedly, officials have discussed a maximum charge of €30 and charges of up to €50 (₹5,394 approx.) on the busiest days. However, the proposal is still under consideration, and a final decision will be taken only after discussion and agreement with the Italian government.

City Introduced Day-Tripper Fee To Manage Overcrowding
According to Travel Daily News International, Venice introduced its day-tripper access fee in 2024 for a simple reason: to manage overcrowding and as a measure to target visitor flows. This system applies to people who enter the historic city without staying overnight. In 2026, this access fee operated on selected dates between April 3 and July 26, and the scheme generated more than €5.2 million in revenue for the city.
However, the city is now considering applying the tourist entry fee for day trippers for a longer period. But the changes for 2027 remain subject to a decision by the relevant municipal authorities and agreement with the Italian government. This means that a trip for people visiting Venice during the day in 2027 could become a little more costly.
