Goa is a tourist spot and in order to protect their safety, the tourism department of Goa has issued guidelines that need to be followed. In case, anyone fails to follow them, they will have to pay a fine of ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. In addition to this, they may also face legal actions under Section 188 of IPC.

According to the guidelines, tourists are suggested to make stay bookings at hotels registered with the Tourism Department. Moreover, they should avoid staying at any unregistered hotels. As for alcohol, consuming it in public is a punishable offence and is prohibited. Avoid using taxis, bikes or other private vehicles that don’t have a valid licence or aren’t properly registered with the transport department. To prevent overcharging, demand metered fares while hiring taxis. Additionally, keep in mind that it is completely forbidden to drive motorised vehicles, especially 2-wheelers, on beaches. If you do this, you will be subject to harsh punishment, which may include the arrest of the driver and the seizure of the car.

When there, be careful not to engage with touts or illicit agents for river cruises or other watersports-related activities. It is expected that you refrain from spray-painting graffiti on historic buildings or attempting to destroy them in any other way. It is not permitted to beg for alms in tourist locations, thus visitors are encouraged not to encourage it. It is forbidden to cook food outside and to leave trash lying around in popular tourist sites.
