A pre-independent era eatery, Cafe Tato in Panjim, has been serving up traditional Goan recipes for 112 years. Puffed buns made with bananas, plates of sukhi puri bhaji are brought out of the kitchen in hordes for both locals and tourists alike. There’s no fanfare, just rustic home-style food that you’d probably get if you were visiting a Konkani family for breakfast. Sachin Tendulkar couldn’t help but rave about the buns, which he called “amazing” in his Instagram reel. And you would too, if you tried them!

Where: G-3, Souza Towers, Near Municipal Market, Panaji, Goa
When: 7:30 am to 8:30 pm
Cost: ₹450 for two approx.
Sachin Tendulkar Recommends: Buns, Alsande Bhaji, and Batata Bhaji

2. Navtara Veg Restaurant

Founded by Carlos Tavora, a born and bred Goan, Navtara Veg Restaurant opened in 1986 to cater to the rising demand for vegetarian food. Over time, it has evolved into a multi-cuisine chain across the coastal destination, dishing out plates of dosas, veg thalis, noodles, and even rich paneer gravies. A solo date and a dosa craving brought Neena Gupa to Navtara, where she grabbed the opportunity to remind her followers of the joys of eating alone.

Where: Ground Floor, Municipal Market Area, Tiswadi, Panaji, Goa
When: 7 am to 10:30 pm
Cost: ₹700 for two approx.
Neena Gupta Recommends: Dosa

From British rock band Coldplay, to actors Vidya Balan, Suniel Shetty, to MasterChef Australia’s Gary Mehigan, Cavatina is a hotspot for the rich and famous. Specialising in contemporary Goan fare, with a focus on seasonal ingredients, the fine-dining space pushes open the envelope, leaving even Coldplay impressed with its creations.

Where: Near Joecons Beach Resort, Taj Hotel Road, Benaulim, Goa

4. Martin’s Corner

Wait in line for a table at Martin’s Corner, and the hall of fame would instantly catch your attention. Photos of celebrities —Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Aishwarya Rai, Brett Lee, Hrithik Roshan— who’ve sunk their teeth into the Goan coastal fare are validation enough for why you’ve made your way here. Started by retiree, Mr Martin, as a corner shop which became a small sit-out and now a full-fledged sea-facing restaurant, Martin’s Corner’s Prawn Curry Rice, Chicken Cafreal and crab preparations have loyal fans. In fact, Sachin Tendulkar put Martin’s in the spotlight after he confessed it to be one of his favourite restaurants.
