We all know how much Indians love travelling and exploring new places. This year-end was no different, with travel seeing a strong surge and some interesting booking trends, especially with Christmas and New Year coming around. Taking a closer look, MakeMyTrip shared its 2025 year-end booking trends, showing how Indians travelled this year compared to 2024. Scroll down to know more!

MakeMyTrip 2025 Year-End Booking Trends

Looking at MakeMyTrip’s 2025 year-end booking trends between December 20, 2025 and January 5, 2025 we can say travellers are choosing comfort over anything. Hotel and homestay bookings in the ₹5,000–₹7,500 per night range increased; meanwhile, the ₹2,500–₹5,000 segment saw a slight dip. This shift highlights a growing preference for better stays, upgraded amenities, and premium experiences.

Leisure trips still topped the charts, but spiritual travel made a strong comeback. In 2024, leisure travel made up 77.1% of bookings, while pilgrimage trips stood at 22.9%. In 2025, leisure travel dipped slightly to 75.3%, and pilgrimage travel rose to 24.8%. This shows that many travellers are now using the New Year break not just to unwind, but also to reconnect spiritually.

Destinations People Are Travelling To The Most

When it came to domestic leisure travel, Goa once again stole the spotlight. Jaipur and Udaipur followed close behind, showing that heritage cities never lose their charm. Hill stations stayed popular too, with Manali, Munnar, Darjeeling, Ooty, Mussoorie, and Mysore making it to the top 10.

Spiritual travel was another big highlight this year. Cities like Puri, Varanasi, Madurai, Rameshwaram, Amritsar, Ayodhya, Ujjain, Dwarka, Udupi, and Tirupati saw strong footfall. Many travellers chose to mix faith with travel during the festive season.

For domestic holiday packages, Kerala topped the chart, followed by Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andaman, and Tamil Nadu. These places offer the perfect mix of beaches, hills, greenery, and culture—ideal for a refreshing getaway.

On the international front, Thailand emerged as the favourite destination for Indian travellers this year, overtaking the UAE, which had topped the list last year. The UAE grabbed the second spot, with Vietnam and Cambodia close behind. Singapore and Indonesia rounded off the top five. Easy visa processes, good flight connections, and great travel value made these destinations popular picks.

From choosing comfier stays to visiting beaches, hills, and spiritual spots, the 2025 year-end trips are all about enjoying the break the right way.
