After reports of alleged transportation of dog meat at KSR Railway Station circulated on Saturday, the Bengaluru police seized 2,700kg of meat at the station. Now, the city’s food safety has clarified that the suspected meat had no traces of dog meat and is actually mutton or goat meat.

According to a Times of India report, the commissioner of food safety in Bengaluru, K Srinivas has clarified that the meat seized was that of a special breed of goat called Sirohi. These goats, reportedly, have spots on their body and their tails are slightly elongated so they look like dogs. This breed is popular in Rajasthan and Kutch-Bhuj areas of Gujarat.

He then went on to mention that the meat parcels had arrived by train from Jaipur to meet the demand for mutton in Bengaluru. Due to a shortage of mutton supply in the city, many traders source goat mutton from Rajasthan and other states.
