In case you weren’t aware, there are two places in India where the Olive Ridley sea turtles come ashore to nest. One is in the state of Odisha and the other is in the state of Goa. Recently, officials reported that the number of sea turtles arriving at the shore of Goan beaches had dropped significantly. According to experts, this was because of the loud music and partying that Goan beaches are routinely subjected to.
Olive Ridley Turtles Sighted At Goa Beaches During The Day
The officials, therefore, took and even directed a number of resorts and hotels to not conduct loud parties during the nesting season. It seems that their conservation efforts have finally come to fruition as the Olive Ridley turtles returned to the Goan beaches in numbers larger than ever!
There is another reason for experts to be happy about this. It is routine for the turtles to arrive during the night. It is extremely rare that they arrive during the day at nesting sites around the world. Even in India, it has only happened a few times before in Odisha.
However, for the first time ever, sea turtles have arrived during the daytime at Goan beaches for nesting. The reasons for such an event are still unknown as ascertaining the reason will require scientific scrutiny which is yet to be gained.

First Time In 20 Years
According to officials, this is the first time in 20 years that such a phenomenon is happening. As of now, There are a total of 157 nesting sites in Goa across Mandrem, Morjim, Agonda, and Galgibaga.
According to reports, there have been three sightings so far at Morjim Beach. The turtles are said to arrive at 5 PM. Another sighting was reported at the Galgibaga beach around 2 pm, according to what the Times of India reported.
It is speculated that these turtles might be newly matured and are still new to the mating process. But nothing can be said for sure and a proper scientific study is conducted.
