Government Asks Stranded Indians In Kharkiv To Melt Snow For Water & Avoid Full Meals

The Ministry of Defence on March 3 issued a list of dos and don’ts for Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia. With Indians stuck in Ukraine borders, waiting to be evacuated, bearing sub-zero temperatures, covering distances on foot, their safety is the utmost concern. Read on to know more.

Melt Snow For Water, Use White Flag For Waving & More Advisories

The Defence Ministry revealed in a statement, that each group of Indians must keep a small white cloth, to be used as a flag for waving. The guidelines issued further state that they must avoid consuming full meals and instead eat smaller portions to extend rations. If they find themselves in an open area, they must melt snow to make water. Stranded Indian nationals were further guided to share food and water and stay hydrated. If available, they must keep one large garbage bag per person to be used as ground matting. It can be used as a cover against exposure to rain, cold, storm or forced march or evacuation.

Govt Advises Stranded Indians In Ukraine To Form Groups With Coordinator For Safety

According to the report by ABP Live, the statement further advises Indians to organise themselves in squads of 10 or small groups, ensure the buddy, pair system is maintained. They must nominate a coordinator or deputy coordinator, their whereabouts must be known to the buddy or group coordinator. With Operation Ganga underplay, thousands of Indians were safely evacuated and many more will be brought back on special evacuation.
