Heavy Rains In Mumbai Force Vistara Flight Diversions To Ahmedabad; High Tide Alert Issued

As Mumbai grapples with relentless monsoon storms, the city is submerged in a sea of challenges. Over the past few days, heavy rains have not only caused widespread waterlogging but have also thrown air travel into disarray. With Vistara flights diverting to Ahmedabad and the city’s transport network struggling to keep up with Mumbai’s monsoon, this is proving to be a formidable test for both its residents and travellers.

Vistara Flights Rerouted As Mumbai Battles Rains

Mumbai has been hit by continuous heavy rain over the past few days. This downpour, which has been ongoing for four days, has caused severe waterlogging across many parts of the city. On July 21, the city saw substantial rain, recording an average of 71 mm between 8 am on July 20 and 8 am on July 21, according to Lokmat Times The eastern and western suburbs also received significant amounts of rain—72 mm and 59 mm, respectively.

The heavy rains have disrupted public transport services. Mumbai’s local trains, a crucial part of the city’s commuting system, have been particularly affected. The relentless rain has led to delays and operational issues, making travel challenging for many residents.

The impact of the heavy rainfall has extended to air travel as well. Vistara Airlines has been forced to divert several flights due to adverse weather conditions at Mumbai International Airport.

  • Flight UK696: This flight, travelling from Amritsar to Mumbai, has been rerouted to Ahmedabad. It was expected to land in Ahmedabad at 12:15 pm.
  • Flight UK963: This flight, coming from Delhi, has also been diverted to Ahmedabad, with an expected arrival time of 12:45 pm.
  • Flight UK822: This flight, flying from Chennai to Mumbai, was diverted to Ahmedabad. It was expected to land in Ahmedabad at 1 pm.

The diversions are a direct response to the poor weather conditions at Mumbai’s airport, which have made landing difficult.

High Tide Alert Has Been Issued

The city is also under a high tide alert. According to Lokmat Times reports, today, a high tide of 4.44 metres is expected at 12:10 pm, followed by a low tide of 1.79 metres at 6:15 pm. Residents living in coastal areas are advised to remain cautious due to the potential for flooding and high waves.

Mumbai’s current weather has brought both the city’s transport and aviation sectors to a standstill. The ongoing heavy rains, with waterlogging and high tide alerts, continue to affect daily life and travel. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts moderate to heavy showers, with some areas potentially experiencing extremely heavy rainfall.
