Here’s What You Should Do If You Lose Your Luggage At The Airport

Imagine being excited about your vacation and your plane has just landed at your destination. You move towards the luggage carousel and the belt doesn’t bring your luggage. The most dreadful moment! You feel like your vacation has ended just before it could start. Isn’t it? But, what next? Here is what you should do if you happen to lose your luggage at the airport.

1. Be Calm And Act Quick

Yes, this surely is an awful and stressful situation but panicking won’t help. Just like every problem has a solution, this too has. All you have to do is act immediately. Know that the airline authorities will help you locate your bag. According to the rules of some airlines, you have to report your missing luggage within a stipulated time. So do not wait.

2. Walk To The Baggage Desk

Immediately contact the baggage claim desk and file a report of your lost luggage. You will have to fill out the Property Irregularity Report (PIR). Fill in all the details properly so that your luggage can be located at the earliest. The airlines will then locate your bag and deliver it to you.

3. Ask About The Policy

Ask and understand from the officials at the desk about the lost baggage policy of the airlines. This includes information about the reimbursement of baggage fees and also incidental expenses.

4. Check-in

After filling out the form and getting the other formalities done, there is no point in waiting at the airport. So you can go to your home, hotel or hostel and wait for their updates. Today, with the claim number you can yourself track the progress on your complaint.

5. Keep Receipts

There will be incidental expenses that you might incur because of not having your essential things with you. Make sure you keep the receipts of these purchases. The airlines will reimburse them to you according to their policy once you get your luggage back.

You can track the progress of your complaint and call for updates on the toll-free number that the airline will provide you while reporting.
