Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a complete ban on mobile phones in government and private schools. This rule will come into effect across the state from March 1, 2026. Here’s why the chief minister has taken this decision for students.

No Mobiles Allowed In Himachal Pradesh Schools 

Students of all government and private schools in Himachal Pradesh will no longer be allowed to bring mobile phones to school. According to a report by The Times of India, this announcement was made by the chief minister during the closing ceremony of the 69th National School Games Under-19 Girls Handball Tournament in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district.

Reportedly, the decision aims to improve the academic environment in schools and protect students’ overall well-being. The ban on mobile phones will officially start from March 1, 2026. Under the new rules, students will not be allowed to bring devices inside school premises.

Penalty For Bringing Phones To School

If any student is found with a mobile phone at school, a penalty will be imposed. The device will be confiscated by school authorities, and the student’s parents will have to pay a ₹500 fine. As per The Times of India, parents will also have to attend mandatory counselling sessions at the school. The education department has been directed to draft a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to handle repeated violations and ensure long-term compliance.

During the event, the CM pointed out that many students were using mobile phones during lunch breaks and class hours. He said this habit distracts them and affects their interpersonal growth. Apart from the mobile phone ban, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also highlighted the state government’s efforts to provide world-class education. He further spoke about the government’s push to promote sports and sports tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
