We Indians love to eat! Be it an occasion or a normal day, we never miss the chance to enjoy a feast of yummy food at any time. And when it comes to celebrating a festival, something as grand as Holi, there needs to be loads of delish food as a part of the celebrations. One of Holi’s most special snacks to munch on is Masala Mathri and it is clearly one of my favourites.

The auspicious day of Holi is around the corner and most people celebrate the festival with pomp and glory. Along with colours, water balloons, and gulaal, food is something that adds lots of enthusiasm and fun to the celebrations.

If you are thinking of hosting a Holi party this year and wish to add appetising traditional dishes to the food spread, make sure to add Masala Mathri along with Gujiya, Thandai, Puran Poli, Namak Pare, Malpua, and more.

You can surely buy all these food items from any online store or any nearby shop but nothing can compare to homemade healthy dishes. And if you want to impress your guests with your cooking skills, here’s a recipe to make masala mathri at home.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Flour

  • ¾ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Carom Seeds (crushed)
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper (crushed)
  • 1 tsp Kasuri Methi

Recipe:

  • Start preparing the dough by mixing flour, salt, crushed carrom seeds, kasuri methi, crushed black pepper, and ghee.
  • Mix all the ingredients well till you get a texture similar to breadcrumbs.
  • In the next step, add very little water to bind the dough together. Follow the step a few times and make sure to not knead it like making roti dough.
  • Keep the dough aside for 10 minutes.
  • Make small marble-sized balls.
  • To flatten the balls, use your hands.
  • Firstly, press gently with your palm and then press in the centre using your thumb.
  • Heat some oil in a kadhai or pan and fry the mathri on low to medium heat.
  • Once fried, let them cool down and enjoy!
