These most recent improvements, which further cement the Emirate’s position as a major international tourist centre, were revealed at a press conference hosted by SCTDA during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM 2024) in Dubai. The Sharjah Pavilion welcomed 27 public and private sector entities to showcase the Emirate’s all-encompassing approach to growing its tourism industry and highlighting the most recent sustainable tourism attractions and projects.

It includes Kalba Hanging Gardens, Al Hafiya Lake and the latest Mleiha National Park project by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). Also, it includes the recently announced project for the development and organisation of the Al Badayer area by SCTDA. The project was in collaboration with the Economic Development Department and in coordination with several Emirate governmental entities.

SCTDA noted that Sharjah’s vast hospitality infrastructure contributes to the city’s continued increase in visitors. It includes more than 100 hotel establishments offering more than 10,000 rooms. As the emirate launches more top-notch tourist initiatives, this capacity will rise, guaranteeing that it is ready to handle projected increases in hotel visitor numbers.

According to data released by the authority, there was a notable increase in the number of hotel visitors from the GCC nations (apart from the UAE) in 2023. Approximately 250,000 tourists checked in, which is 17% more than the 211,000 guests that visited in the previous year. With around 140,000 and 75,000 hotel guests, respectively, Oman and Saudi Arabia were the main Gulf sources of visitors, highlighting Sharjah’s deepening cultural and economic ties with its neighbours. The broad and varied tourism attractions of the emirate were on display at ATM 2024 in the Sharjah Pavilion.
