Bungalow is a home, a restaurant and a piece of Chef Vikas Khanna’s heart. The Michelin 2024 Bib Gourmand award-winning New York restaurant is an ode to Khanna’s late sister, Radha. Decked in fresh flowers, perfumed with agarbattis and serving regional elevated Indian cuisine to patrons, lovingly by Chef Vikas Khanna himself, Bungalow’s rise to fame seems ordained. It holds within it the blessings of Radha, believes Vikas Khanna, who recently shared that he has seen miracles happening at his restaurant.
Vikas Khanna Shares How Bungalow’s Ceiling Was Once Covered With White Flowers
In an interview with Vishal Gondal on his YouTube podcast, Vikas Khanna revealed how he feels a mystical yet divine energy in his restaurant, Bungalow, New York. “I have seen miracles happening in that restaurant (Bungalow),” says Khanna. Sharing a mystical anecdote, the chef reveals that he cleans the ceiling of the restaurant every Monday. It’s maintenance day.

One Monday, Vikas Khanna went up to the open ceiling with his whole team, including two dishwashers and a steward, to clean it. On opening the door to the ceiling, Khanna was astounded to see millions of white flowers. The ceiling was bathed in white and sweet fragrance emanated from the roof.

A Blessing From The Divine!
“I don’t know which gust of wind at night made this happen, ” he wonders. Khanna remembers bowing, and looking up at the sky, saying, ‘I know you are watching me.” The teary-eyed chef, with conviction in his eyes, believes he knows someone is watching over Bungalow, watching over that ceiling. He decided not to clean the ceiling that day, as the flowers were nothing less than a blessing from the divine.

Once he walked back into the restaurant, he realised the air-conditioning wasn’t working that day. “But because the ceiling was covered with flowers, the room continued to remain cool,” said Vikas Khanna to Vishal Gondal. He revealed that he could smell the flowers. For Khanna,m neither was it normal nor was it human. He believed it to be divine intervention from the Universe.
