The Robot Makes Sure That People Wear Mask And Follow Social Distancing

One shop in Japan has appointed a robot to make sure its customers wear them during the pandemic. Sound’s cool, right? Well, the robot ensures that every customer is wearing a mask. In fact, in a video released by its developers, the robot is seen saying,

“I’m sorry to bother you, but please wear a mask,” says the small humanoid machine after wheeling up to a bare-faced shopper.

And once the customer obliges to the request, it says,

“Thank you for understanding,” bowing its rounded white head towards them in thanks.

Robot Robovie Is Deployed At A Sports Store In Osaka

For the robot, its nickname is Robovie. And it has been deployed at a sports store in the city of Osaka in an experiment by Kyoto-based research institute ATR, which built the electronic clerk. If you are wondering how can the robot detect if the person is wearing a mask or not, then you must know that the robot has a camera and laser scanner, which helps it detect when people are not wearing a mask, or standing too close together in the queue. As well as enforcing social distancing, Robovie can direct customers to the part of the store they want to go to, according to ATR.

Now ain’t this super cool?
