India Gets Its 1st Musical Road In Mumbai; Coastal Road Will Play ‘Jai Ho’ For Commuters

This is an amazing update! A section of the Mumbai Coastal Road (MCRP) is all set to become India’s first ‘musical road.’ It will offer a rare music experience to drivers as they commute through the stretch. Commuters will be treated to the tune of ‘Jai Ho’, the award-winning song from the hit film Slumdog Millionaire.

Mumbai’s Coastal Road To Play ‘Jai Ho‘

Mumbaikars, get ready for an experience like no other. Motorists driving through a section of the north-bound arm of the Coastal Road from Nariman Point to Worli will soon hear ‘Jai Ho.’ According to a report by News18, motorists will be able to hear the music even with their windows rolled up.  The musical road is part of the city’s traffic-free Coastal Road corridor. It blends technology with entertainment.

It will definitely make the commute much more enjoyable for drivers. This will be the fifth musical road in the world, but the very first in India. This is not just amazing,  it is a moment to be proud of. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the initiative on February 11 at 12:30 pm.

Project Executed At A Cost Of ₹6.21 Crore

A senior civic official shared with Hindustan Times that the tune ‘Jai Ho’ was chosen deliberately. The song is a dedication to the nation and is meant to inspire patriotism. Reportedly, the idea took shape last month. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioned a Hungarian company to execute the project at a cost of ₹6.21 crore plus GST.

Musical strips have been installed on the road. As motorists emerge from the underground tunnel at 70-80 kmph towards Worli, they will be able to hear the song inside their vehicles. According to Hindustan Times, the civic body has also installed signboards 500 metres, 100 metres, and 60 metres ahead of the stretch to alert drivers about the musical road.
