The latest reports by the IQAir AirVisual, an agency that monitors air pollution across the world have revealed that Indian metropolises are the most polluted cities in the world. It’s also found that 90% of the 200 cities with the highest pollution in the world are in China and India and most of the others are in Pakistan and Indonesia. Ghaziabad in India has emerged as the most polluted city in the world in 2019, and this just the beginning of the pollution mayhem in India.

According to the reports of IQAir AirVisual, Ghaziabad is the most polluted city in the world in 2019 as per the PM2.5 level which exceeds beyond the level prescribed by the US Environment Protection Agency as healthy. New Delhi is the most polluted city and 21 our of the world’s 30 cities with the worst pollution are all in India, six Indians cities are in the top ten.

The report also reveals that air pollution is one of the most pressing environmental health risk facing the global population. It’s estimated that more than 80% of the population living in urban areas are exposed to air levels that are above the WHO guideline limit. Low and middle-income countries are most at risk. In the country-wise lineup, India is at the 5th place with Bangladesh topping the list, followed by Pakistan, Mongolia and Afghanistan.

Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad recorded an annual PM2.5 average of 110.2 mg/m3 and the safe level is actually 60 mg/m3. Noida and Greater Noida were in the 6th and 9th spots in the list. Noida had an annual PM2.5 average of 97.7 mg/m3 and Greater Noida had 91.3 mg/m3 as per the report. Delhi took the fifth position in the list with an average PM2.5 of 98.6 mg/m3. However if you’d compare this year’s report to that of the previous years, then the annual average of PM2.5 for Ghaziabad has reduced. According to the records, the annual average was 135.2 mg/m3 in 2018 and it was 144.6 mg/m3 in 2017. And the annual average in Noida was 123.6 in 2018 and 134 in 2017. But in spite of this, the government including each and every one of us must take initiatives to reduce the pollution in our country.
