You can now go on an international trip to Nepal on a train. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba together flagged off the India-Nepal train service that will operate from Bihar’s Jaynagar to Janakpur’s Kurtha. Janakpur is a city in the Dhanusa district of Nepal. The re-introduced train route will incorporate 8 stations and 6 halt stations. Also, 47 road crossings and 142 bridges have been built on the route. The length of the Jaynagar-Kurtha route is 34.50 kilometres. It is a part of the Jaynagar-Bardibas route of 69.08 kilometres.

The First Phase Of The Project Is Functional Now
The total length of the train route from India to Nepal is 69.08 kilometres. Of this, 2.95 kilometres will run through India. 65.75 kilometres of the route will run through Nepal. The first phase of the project from Jaynagar to Kurtha is functional now. The remaining part is of the project will be ready soon. The British were the first to start the India-Nepal train service in 1937. The service was discontinued after the harrowing floods in Nepal in 2001. Now, the service is resuming again after 21 years.

What Documents To Carry For India-Nepal Train Travel?
From travelling to Nepal via train from India, passengers must carry the following documents:
- National passport
- Government-issued photo identity card.
- Photo Identity card of Election Commission of India
- Driving licence
- Government-issued documents for age verification and photographic proof of age for travellers aged under 18 and above 65.
