Anushka Rathod

On this episode of Tere Gully Mein, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met Surat ki Beti and a finance influencer, Anushka Rathod, for a fun day out on the streets. From navigating the city’s unrelenting traffic to exploring its street food, here’s what went down on this fun-filled episode.

A Surti Food Adventure With Anushka Rathod

Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, and the famous finfluencer Anushka Rathod had a gala time on this episode of Tere Gully Mein. The episode began with the Curly Tales team meeting Anushka in old Surat. Since Surti people are known for turning every dish into a fusion, our day kicked off with trying out Khawsa at the Lijjat Khawsa Centre. Khao Suey, an authentic Burmese dish, has been adapted by the Surtis into their own version called Khawsa. And it’s actually quite popular with the locals!

After enjoying some food, Anushka and Kamiya Jani discussed how Gujaratis manage their finances. Anushka shared, “Gujaratis are very good at business and lead comfortable lives. Since I’m Marwadi, my family runs a successful business too. But hum kanjoos bhi bohot hai,” which honestly made us laugh. We then headed to Rekhaben’s, a store famous for authentic Gujarati snacks like theplas, khakras, chaklis, and more.

Rekhaben’s: A Khakra Paradise In Surat

Rekhaben’s is undoubtedly one of the best places to grab authentic Gujarati snacks. After tasting Gujarati thepla and browsing the endless varieties of khakras, we were quite surprised. Anushka showed us their special mini coin-shaped khakras, which came in many flavours: cheesy chilli, garlic, vada pav, and even pizza! An Italian twist to a classic Gujarati snack. They all looked incredibly tempting. Fans of Chinese food could rejoice, too, as Rekhaben’s also offers manchurian khakras!

After spending quite some time wandering through Rekhaben’s never-ending aisles of khakras, we made our way to Janni Locho House and Shreeji Locho House, because no trip to Surat is complete without locho. Finally, Anushka Rathod and Kamiya headed to A One Coco to enjoy the famous Cold Choco for a sweet treat. The entire episode was packed with street food strolls and plenty of fun conversations sprinkled throughout.
