Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani rarely sticks to just food talk, and the Friendship Day special episode was no exception. For this special episode of Sunday Brunch, our editor welcomed Aparshakti Khurana and Sanya Malhotra, serving them rajma chawal, chole bhature, matcha, and a line-up of familiar North Indian favourites.
Aparshakti Khurana Wrote His Viral Track ‘Kudiye Ni‘ From Here
Between mouthfuls, Aparshakti Khurana casually dropped a revelation that made both Sanya and Kamiya pause mid-bite: Kudiye Ni, his viral single, was written in a vanity van.
Not just any vanity van, but the one parked on the set of Dangal, which Aparshakti and Sanya happened to share at the time. What for them was a makeshift greenroom doubled up as the birthplace of a track that would later take on a life of its own. Sanya’s reaction was of half surprise and half nostalgia, and it set the tone for the rest of the conversation.
Aparshakti explained how the song nearly found its way into a film. He had played it for Nitesh Tiwari, the director of Dangal, who wanted to slot it into a Hindi film. That plan never materialised, and Kudiye Ni was released independently. It wasn’t an instant blockbuster. Instead, the track simmered quietly before exploding online weeks later. When it finally went viral, it was magical, the actor recalled, getting reminded of how suddenly it seemed to be playing everywhere.
Music, Food & Fun
Kamiya, always quick to draw out more, steered the talk to Aparshakti’s newer music. “Would he sing for them?” she asked, and he didn’t hesitate. Right there at the brunch table, he performed Lafzaan, his latest single. And due to the courtesy of his magical voice, for a few minutes, the brunch turned into an intimate concert.
The episode captured something rare! On one hand, plates of homely rajma chawal and golden-hued bhature spoke of flavour and nostalgia. On the other hand, a behind-the-scenes confession revealed how an unassuming vanity van became the launchpad for one of Aparshakti’s most recognisable songs. The contrast worked beautifully!

Amidst all this candidness, one truth lingered: that songs don’t always begin in fancy studios. Sometimes, they’re scribbled down between takes and carried forward on instinct. With Sanya’s warmth, Aparshakti’s candour, and Kamiya’s effortless hosting, this brunch was like a homely meal we were all a part of in some way.
