How Did Shreyas Talpade Get The Lead Role In Iqbal?
In the Sunday Brunch episode, recalling how he got the lead role in Iqbal, Shreyas Talpade revealed that during a low phase in his career, many of his Marathi friends used to play cricket at the Kalina grounds. One of his friends came to him and told him that Nagesh Kukunoor was looking for a bowler for a small role in the film. He then went to meet Nagesh, who asked him if he was a bowler, to which Shreyas replied that he was an actor.
Nagesh was looking for a pace bowler, while Shreyas revealed that he bowled medium pace. His age was also not what the director was looking for. The actor was 28, while the director wanted someone around 17. Nagesh told him that he would let him know, and Shreyas thought he might not get the role. However, he was surprised to receive a call for an audition.

Won The Role By Just One Vote
The actor went for the audition and was called again in the evening. He was then asked to block his dates for two months, which left him confused. According to Shreyas, he thought he was auditioning for a small role. However, Nagesh told him that he was actually auditioning for the male lead.
Another person had also been shortlisted, and everyone voted between him and Shreyas. Surprisingly, both received an equal number of votes. In the end, director Nagesh Kukunoor cast the deciding vote in Shreyas’s favour. And that’s how the actor landed the lead role in Iqbal.
