On Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani, Sunanda Sharma spoke about the one relationship in her life that seems to have had absolutely no filters: the one she shared with her father. For Sunanda, he was not the intimidating, “tell your mother” kind of dad. He was her best friend. The person she could walk up to and tell practically anything. And she really meant anything!
Sunanda Sharma Says Her Father Was Her Best Friend
Sunanda Sharma revealed that she would share everything with her father, right down to the most random details of her life. Even conversations involving boys were not off-limits. If some guy said something to her, she could come home and tell her father about it. There was no elaborate editing of the story, no “maybe I shouldn’t tell Papa this” moment. She could simply say, “This guy said this to me,” and talk about it with him.
That kind of equation is rare. Especially when the person you’re discussing boys with is your father.
What makes their relationship even more special is the faith her father had in her. Sunanda recalled how people would tell him that sending his daughter out into the world could eventually mean losing control over her.
People would say that once she went outside, she would “go out of his hands.”
Her father, however, wasn’t buying it. He believed she would make him proud.
And years later, standing on the other side of that decision, Sunanda Sharma knows exactly how much that belief meant.

Shares How Her Father Always Believed In Her
Sunanda Sharma also spoke about how proud her father was of the person she had become. Seeing his daughter become an artist and a singer was something he celebrated deeply.
There is a lovely irony to the story. People around him were worried that giving Sunanda freedom would take her away from him. Her father seemed to understand something they didn’t: letting your daughter find her own world does not necessarily mean losing her from yours.
And every time someone told him she might slip out of his hands, he had already made up his mind about what would happen next: she would make him proud.
