A Sunday at Gaurav Gera’s Oshiwara home doesn’t begin with perfection, it begins mid-madness, somewhere between a simmering pot and a punchline waiting to land. When Kamiya Jani walked in for a Sunday Brunch, she wasn’t stepping into a normal brunch. She walked straight into Gaurav’s world, which was equal parts flavour and forgetfulness.
Gaurav Gera Forgets To Put Onions Mid-Cooking
The buzz around the actor is still fresh, thanks to his turn as Aalam Bhai in Dhurandhar, a performance people haven’t stopped talking about. But inside his kitchen, there’s no trace of that intensity; it’s just a man talking about noon chai, doodh soda, and a conversation he probably shouldn’t be having while cooking.
At one point, just as the dish was nearing completion, something shifted, not in the pan, but in his expression. We could clearly see a split-second pause and that unmistakable “I messed up” face. Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, caught it immediately. And as it turns out, the onions never made it into the dish. Not because they weren’t there, they were right on the slab; they were chopped, ready, and almost accusingly present. He just… forgot.

Kitchen Chaos At Gaurav Gera’s Home
Kamiya didn’t let the moment slip into disaster. She offered a workaround on the spot; cook the onions separately, layer them on top, and salvage the intent if not the process. It’s the kind of fix you come up with when you’ve seen enough kitchens go off-script.
Gaurav Gera, amused and mildly defeated, admitted what was already obvious; he gets distracted. Especially when there’s talking involved. “When you’re in the kitchen, you don’t talk,” he said, half-serious, half-aware of the irony.
But this wasn’t a one-off mistake. Just a week before, he had attempted the ambitious and was making chai and custard at the same time. Somewhere between stirring and switching burners, ginger, meant for the chai, landed in the custard!
And instead of calling it a failure, he reframed it in the most Gaurav way possible and said “adrak ka swaad aa gaya usme (custard) me bhi.”
