This Sunday, Geeta Basra turned a simple brunch into something far richer! It was part kitchen gossip, part cultural bonanza, and part comedy sketch on Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief. She also reveals what her favourite Gujarati dish is, find out what it is.
This Is Geeta Basra’s Favourite Gujarati Dish
Known for her candid persona and as the wife of cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Geeta Basra surprised us when she confessed a soft spot for Gujarati food. “I love Patra with chai,” she admitted, eyes twinkling, as if she’d just shared a family secret. This peeked our curiosity and we asked her where this Gujarat influence over their plates hails from, since both Geeta and her husband, Harbhajan are Punjabi. This was when she shared her deep-seated love for Gujarati dishes. She loves how they feel light on the stomach and are healthier.
Patra is her favourite and it’s her favourite companion with evening chai. She loves having it as a snack.

Aloo Ke Paranthe, Dhokla, Bhakri: The Star Dishes Of Her Brunch Spread
The spread she presented looked like the happy chaos of a real Indian brunch. Flaky, ghee-soaked aloo ke paranthe sat snugly against feather-light dhokla, and crisp bhakri crackled at the edges of the plate. What made it charming wasn’t the food alone but the way Basra explained her choices, telling tiny stories about spices, recalling the clink of teacups from long-ago evenings, or pausing mid-sentence to laugh at her own enthusiasm.
The banter between her and our editor-in-chief, Kamiya Jani stitched the whole episode together. When she teased her about overdoing it, she threw her hands up and confessed she’d “gone all out,” sparking a round of laughter that tumbled into silliness when Kamiya dubbed herself as the “ultimate bhukkad.”
What stood out was how naturally Geeta Basra balanced her plates. Punjabi dishes brought the comfort of heavy, homey flavours, while the Gujarati snacks added a lift, which was subtle and playful. The mix wasn’t contrived, it flowed the way food does in Indian households, where cuisines mingle without ever losing their accents. Watching her table was like tasting memory, heritage, and personality all folded together.
This is where Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani really shines: it thrives on the unscripted. Geeta Basra wove in her humour, food wisdom, and pieces of her story. The camera captured something more intimate than a celebrity spotlight, it felt like eavesdropping on a Sunday brunch where you were welcome to pull up a chair.

By the end, one thing was clear: for Geeta Basra, food is never just food. It’s laughter bubbling over paranthe, nostalgia tucked into a roll of Patra, and the joy of watching two cultures share a plate without compromise. As she served aloo ke paranthe alongside dhokla and bhakri, viewers weren’t just thinking of what to cook next, they felt, in the most unguarded way, invited into her home.
