Is There A Right Way To Eat Dal Baati Churma? Rajasthan’s Dy CM Diya Kumari Teaches Us!

This Sunday was a little extra special because our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, was invited to the official residence of Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, at Civil Lines, Jaipur. The duo sat together and talked about food, Rajasthani hospitality, women’s empowerment, and a lot more. While we were there, Diya Kumari ji also taught us how to eat dal baati churma the right way, so foodies, take note!

Dal Baati Churma With Dy CM Diya Kumari

Think Rajasthani food, and the first dish to pop in your head has to be dal baati churma! So, when we sat down with Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, we had to ask her the right way to dig into this delicious dish. According to her, in a bowl, one has to break the baati a little and top it up with lots of dal. Next, you have to add the churma to the bowl. For the brunch, we were served three different varieties of churma – gulab, besan, and atta – and we made sure to add them all!

Wait, it doesn’t end there. After adding the churma, you have to add more dal to the bowl and mix it all well. “Isko haat se khane main maaza aata hai,” Diya Kumari ji added, and we couldn’t agree more!

What Her Daily Routine Looks Like

As an entrepreneur herself, Kamiya was curious to know what a day in the life of the Deputy Chief Minister of a state looked like. Answering her, Diya Kumari ji explained, “Mahila ke lie thoda aur challenging ho jata hai. You have responsibilities as a mother, a daughter, and for the job you do. Maine apne pitaji se sikha hai discipline. Toh samay pe sab cheeze karna, kai baar samay se phele hi pauch jaati hum main kai jagah–toh I think woh bahut zaroori hai.”

She revealed that she usually wakes up between 6 and 7 in the morning, manages her time efficiently, and ensures she sets aside the evenings for personal matters and family.
