It takes a special kind of person to look at a swimming pool, meet someone for the first time, and immediately imagine pushing them into it. RJ Naved is that person! If you’ve grown up listening to his legendary prank calls, you’ll know that for RJ Naved, mischief isn’t something he switches on for the microphone. It’s just who he is. The latest episode of Tere Gully Mein begins at his beautiful home, where the afternoon feels straight out of a family gathering.
RJ Naved Says Mischief Comes Naturally To Him
Somewhere between bites of kebabs and stories from his life, we ask him the obvious question: Where did this obsession with pranks begin? His answer comes without a second’s pause.
“Mujhse normal nahi raha jaata. (I can’t stay normal)”
He laughs before explaining what he means. “Abhi hum pehli baar mile hain, lekin mera mann kar raha tha ki aapko pool mein dhakka de doon… ya paani daal doon.” He quickly adds that he would never actually do it. But the thought…that comes on its own.
For him, this isn’t a radio personality carefully made over the years. It goes all the way back to childhood.
RJ Naved remembers growing up as the youngest one in his gang. While he was studying in Class 6, the friends he spent most of his time with were already in Class 12. The age gap was huge. They were older and far more mature. Keeping up with them wasn’t easy, so he found another way to make his presence felt. If he couldn’t match them in age, he could definitely surprise them with a prank. One childhood stunt still makes him laugh.

How RJ Naved’s Village Mischief Turned Into Legendary Prank Calls
Back then, the doors in their neighbourhood had old-fashioned kundis. RJ Naved and his friends came up with an absurdly clever plan. They secretly tied a thread from the kundi of their own house to the neighbouring house’s latch. Then they would disappear and wait.
Every half an hour, one of them would gently pull the thread. Bang. The neighbour’s door would rattle.
The aunty next door would immediately step outside, looking left, looking right, wondering who had knocked.
Meanwhile, the boys were hiding nearby, trying their absolute best not to burst into laughter. Listening to him narrate the story, it’s easy to connect the dots. The same curious mind that once invented harmless neighbourhood pranks would eventually become the voice behind some of India’s most iconic prank calls.
Behind the famous radio voice isn’t someone performing a character. The prankster everyone has laughed with for years is, quite literally, the same boy who once spent an afternoon pulling a thread attached to a neighbour’s door, convinced there was no better way to have fun.
