In this recent episode of Tere Gully Mein, our Editor-In-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met the popular stand-up comedian Aaditya Kulshreshth, aka Kullu. The comedian not only took us on a food trail through his hometown, Bhopal, but also shared stories from the city’s gallis, his family, and his childhood. This fun episode was not just about food but also about lake-side chats, nostalgia, and of course, laughter.
Kullu Talks About The Bond With His Mother
Aaditya ‘Kullu’ Kulshreshth from Bhopal has become a rising star in India’s stand-up comedy scene. His impeccable timing, one-liners, and laughter-triggering humour have made him a popular name on social media. Since his hometown is Bhopal, we couldn’t think of anyone better to take us through the city’s gallis.
This episode of Tere Gully Mein kicked off with a lakeside chat in Bhopal, famously known as the ‘City of Lakes’. While talking about his life, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, asked Kullu about his bond with his mother, who served as a CID officer for over 35 years. She joined CID at just 19 and retired at 55. Naturally, we were curious whether she had any expectations of him. Kullu immediately replied, “Meri mummy ne mujhse koi umeed rakhi hee nahi,” (My mom never really expected anything from me), which had us all laughing. Honestly, that answer was expected from the comedy icon himself.

His Mom Feels Proud Of His Success
Opening up more about his mother, Kullu shared that she always kept her expectations low and often thought, “Jo bhi karle, thoda bohot hee theek hai.” (Whatever he manages to do, even just a little bit is fine). Now, whenever he achieves something, she feels surprised and blessed. Today, she is proud of his success and, since retiring, enjoys spending her time with friends, going out for lunches, dinners, and much more.
We also asked him about adjusting to life between two very different cities. Bhopal is known for its relaxed pace, while Mumbai is all about hustle. To this, he laughed and said, “Bhaag ke aate hain Bhopal har mahine, (I run back to Bhopal every month) even if it’s for two days.” For him, Mumbai is for work, but Bhopal is where he truly lives his life.
Since Bhopal is also known for its food, we headed to the iconic Indian Coffee House, founded in 1958, and enjoyed some French toast. We also chatted about the story behind his nicknames, Bhopal’s deep bond with poha, and his favourite date spots in the city. To know all about these, you will have to catch the entire episode!
