Sargun Mehta appeared alongside Gippy Grewal on the latest episode of Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani, and the conversation unfolded exactly the way fans would expect from two Punjabi stars known for their wit and effortless camaraderie. Before they could enjoy the lavish spread laid out for them, however, there was work to be done! The duo found themselves folding laundry, making beds, preparing chai and tackling a series of household tasks in a playful attempt to earn their meal.
Sargun Mehta’s ‘Matchbox Apartment’ Story
For someone who has spent over a decade building a successful career in Mumbai, Sargun Mehta still can’t escape the sort of reality check only parents are capable of delivering. Amid the laughter and friendly banter, the conversation shifted to a more personal topic. Kamiya Jani asked whether Mumbai now feels like home after all these years or if Chandigarh still holds that title.
Sargun’s answer came with a story. Yes, Mumbai feels like home, she said, but the city she moved to 16 years ago looked very different from the one she experiences today. Back then, she lived in a tiny apartment, so tiny, in fact, that her parents had their own description for it. Whenever they spoke about her place, they would jokingly call it a “matches ki dibbi”, comparing it to a matchbox.

Sargun Mehta On Her Mumbai Home & Her Parents’ Feedback
Despite her long journey in the city, her parents haven’t exactly been frequent visitors. According to Sargun Mehta, in all these years, they have probably visited her Mumbai home only six times.
Like many children hoping for parental approval, she eventually decided to upgrade. After years of hard work, she bought a much larger house. Somewhere in her mind, she imagined the moment her parents would walk in, look around in amazement and finally acknowledge how far she had come since those matchbox-apartment days.
Instead, they responded in the most parent-like way possible. Rather than being impressed by the size of the house, they casually remarked that her budget had clearly increased.
And just like that, the grand reveal she had imagined turned into another family joke!
The story had everyone laughing, but tucked beneath the humour was a reminder of how far Sargun Mehta has come.
