When Sunday Brunch with Kamiya Jani brought in Upasana Kamineni Konidela as a guest, the table was set not just with food but with stories waiting to be told. A prominent business leader and Vice Chairperson of Apollo Life, Upasana, invited our Editor-in-Chief for a hearty South Indian lineup, including delicacies like Pongal, Upma, Pulihora with the tang of Avakaya Pachadi, a perfectly crisp Telangana-style dosa, and a bowl of rustic Ragi Sangati.
Upasana Tests Ram Charan’s Love With An Ice-Cream
In the hearty conversation between the two ladies, Kamiya asked Upasana who in the Konidela household has the stronger spice game. “Not me,” she admitted, adding that her husband, Ram Charan’s, spice tolerance is much higher. That single answer nudged the conversation towards Hyderabad, its streets, its flavours, and the memories that touch hearts.
It was here that Upasana dropped a story that is enough to melt hearts, and make you crave an ice-cream! Back when she lived in the Old City, she set her soon-to-be husband a challenge. She did not ask for a diamond ring or a grand romantic gesture, but a trip to Famous Ice Cream, one of the most popular spots in town. The catch was that this was planted right in the middle of Hyderabad’s main market. By that point, Ram Charan was already a star, the sort of figure who couldn’t walk a hundred metres without being recognised.

Did He Pass The Love Test?
“If you love me, you’ll take me there,” she told him. They went, ordered their ice creams, and tried to act like just another couple enjoying a sunny afternoon. Except they weren’t just another couple. Within minutes, fans gathered! For most people, it would have been an uncomfortable interruption, but for Upasana, it was proof of his love. “He passed the test,” she said, her grin carrying the weight of the memory.
Kamiya’s laugh at that moment was genuine. She called the story sweet and wanted to know if they’d been back there since. Upasana said that they still go, but rather quietly now. The place hasn’t changed, still sitting in the heart of the market.

The segment put out the rare reminder that relationships are built in these small and seemingly ordinary moments of life. Between the spice debates and the marvellous thali, the conversation revealed something simple: sometimes love is about showing up, even when the world is watching, and letting an ice cream cone in a crowded market speak louder than any declaration could.
