Mumbai’s GSB Seva Mandal Gets ₹703 Crore Insurance Cover
The insurance amount of Mumbai’s GSB Seva Mandal has also seen a significant jump over the years. The mandal had secured a cover of around ₹474 crore in 2025 and ₹400 crore in 2024. The rise this year is partly linked to the increasing value of the gold and silver ornaments adorning the MahaGanpati idol.
According to Hindustan Times, GSB Seva Mandal’s MahaGanpati will be adorned with more than 66 kg of gold ornaments and over 335 kg of silver, along with precious gemstones. Several of these ornaments have been donated by devotees and sevadars over the years.
With gold and silver prices rising, the overall value of these ornaments and other assets has also increased, contributing to the higher insurance valuation this year.
The mandal is popularly known as one of Mumbai’s wealthiest Ganpati mandals, and the scale of its celebrations attracts devotees from across the city and beyond.

When Is GSB Ganpati’s Darshan?
Established in Mumbai in 1951, GSB Seva Mandal began its Ganeshotsav celebrations in 1955. Now, decades later, its annual festivities have become one of the most anticipated Ganeshotsav celebrations in the city.
The first public unveiling this year, known as Virat Darshan, will take place at 8 pm on September 12. The main five-day Ganeshotsav will then be celebrated from September 14 to September 18.
During the festival, the mandal expects more than one lakh poojas and sevas to be performed by devotees and sevadars. The celebrations are not just about the grandeur of the idol and ornaments. GSB Seva Mandal will also conduct its traditional Annadaan Seva, with Prasad Bhojan expected to be served to more than 40,000 devotees every day.
That means over two lakh people could benefit from the food service during the five-day festival.
The mandal is also taking steps towards a more sustainable Ganeshotsav this year. The Ganesha idol will be completely eco-friendly, while printed receipts for donations and sevas have been discontinued in favour of digital receipts to reduce paper waste.
