Videos are going viral showing thick smoke billowing inside Terminal 1 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. According to The Times of India, the blaze broke out after a short circuit in heavy-duty cables and panels at the airport around 6:10 pm on Thursday (April 9). The fire was brought under control and was extinguished by 9:20 pm by emergency response teams. A video shared by X user @W0lverineupdate shows thick smoke coming out of the terminal at the airport.
Fortunately, no fire-related injuries were reported. Reportedly, the incident occurred near aerobridge A7 baggage make-up area. Aerobridges four to eight were closed because heavy smoke had spread across the area. Due to this, operations such as Digi Yatra, CCTV cameras, and telecom networks were significantly impacted.

Flight Operations Remain Unaffected
Security personnel at the Mumbai airport manually checked passengers to clear them for entry inside the terminal. According to The Times of India, there was no major flight delay due to the fire. However, some people took to social media claiming that security gates were locked while passengers had to wait outside.
According to the fire brigade, the fire was confined to the ceiling-level electric tray, electric wiring, electric cables, and the electric power house on the ground floor of the terminal. Operations remained normal at the Mumbai airport, including flight movements and passenger services.

Fortunately, the fire brigade brought the situation under control in time and extinguished the fire within hours. No injuries were reported, and everyone remained safe.
