What Do Indian Army Combat Dogs Do?
Military dogs play an important role in several Army operations, particularly search, tracking and counter-terrorism missions. Their strong sense of smell allows them to detect explosives, weapons and human presence, as well as track individuals across difficult terrain.
They can also be deployed to search buildings and suspected hideouts before soldiers enter potentially dangerous areas. The Army’s Para Special Forces have also used combat dogs during specialised operations.
The latest parachute jump adds an airborne element to this role, showing how military canines and their handlers can train for operations that require soldiers to reach challenging or hostile locations.
For Surya and his handler, the jump was more than just a high-altitude exercise. It put their training, coordination and teamwork to the test, this time, thousands of feet above the ground.
