Kerala’s Wayanad District Hit By Landslide
The landslide struck on July 7 at the construction site of the Anakkompoyil-Meppadi tunnel project in Wayanad. As per The New Indian Epxress, this tunnel is being built between Wayanad and Kozhikode to improve travel. According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, the landslide occurred because the heavy rainfall caused a large amount of excavated debris to slide down.
The landslide caused severe damage, and several people went missing. The rescue team reached the location to search for the people who are still missing. They searched different parts of the landslide-hit area and also checked nearby riverbanks. Kerala Minister A P Anil Kumar said the teams will keep searching in all important locations until they find those who are missing.

How Many People Died?
As the rescue operation continues, the death toll has risen to six. The New Indian Express reported that the people who died are identified as the migrant workers and project staff, including surveyor Azharuddin Ansari from Uttar Pradesh, engineer Rahul Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, and excavator operator Mohammed Imran from Bihar.
While rescue operations continue, authorities are also monitoring the condition of those injured in the landslide. Earlier, Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan said that 10 people had suffered injuries in the incident. Three have been discharged from the hospital, while four remain admitted. Three others are currently being treated in the intensive care unit, including two who are in critical condition.
